DOG KILLED AFTER ATTACKS
A Great Dane that attacked three people has been destroyed at the order of a Roanoke judge. The dog was put to death earlier this week at the Roanoke Valley SPCA, where two weeks ago it bit two workers while being kept there in connection with an earlier attack on its owner's roommate.
A Circuit Court judge ordered the dog destroyed after the owner, Chris Milliner, failed to meet requirements under Roanoke's new ordinance dealing with dangerous dogs.
Milliner was required to obtain at least $50,000 in liability insurance if he was to keep his pet "Damion" as a dangerous dog.
The city ordinance attempts to define vicious dogs, which are put to death, and dangerous ones, which can be kept under strict guidelines - including having the owner obtain insurance, identify the dog as a threat and keep it confined at all times.
Authorities say that in Roanoke, about a half dozen dogs are put to death each year after being determined to be vicious by a judge.
