VICTIM'S NAME: MOM
After arresting an attempted robbery suspect, Henrico County Investigator Mike Wade made a startling discovery - his mother was the victim."It was kind of a good feeling catching the guy," Wade said Friday. "But then the feeling of catching him went away, and I had a different feeling when I realized my mom" had been injured.
Doris Wade, who had a beer bottle broken over her head when she resisted in Thursday's attack, was treated at a hospital and released.
"She's still real sore," Wade said of his 57-year-old mother.
Shawn Pettiford, 21, of Richmond, was charged with attempted robbery and malicious wounding.
Police said Pettiford confronted Doris Wade as she was placing groceries in her car's trunk at a shopping mall. When she resisted, he struck her over the head three times, police said. He ran when customers began chasing him.
Wade, on patrol nearby, captured Pettiford a few minutes later.
