NARROWS TOWN MANAGER TO TAKE JOB IN BOTETOURT
Kurt Hodgen, Narrows town manager for the past Hodgen five years, has announced his resignation.Hodgen told Narrows Town Council on Monday that he plans to leave Feb. 6, to accept a new job as public works director for Botetourt County.
"I feel like it's a good move for me. It's a challenging position," he said.
Botetourt County's growth means new opportunities to use his training in a number of areas, including recreation and capital planning, he added.
"It was a difficult decision to make. My family has grown some roots here," he said of Narrows.
"But the nature of this field is that you move periodically, and this seemed like a good move."
Hodgen, 29, and his wife have three children. He'll be working closer to the town where he grew up, Clifton Forge.
A graduate of James Madison University, Hodgen came to Narrows from the Mount Rogers Planning District Commission.
Narrow Town Council "regretfully" accepted Hodgen's resignation after an executive session Monday.
Mike Kirk, assistant town manager, will serve in an interim capacity while a search is conducted for a new full-time manager.
