LEWIS-GALE CENTER WINS ACCREDITATION
The Lewis-Gale Regional Cancer Center in Salem has won accreditation from the American College of Radiology.Officials said Lewis-Gale is only the second such cancer facility in Virginia and the 23rd in the country to receive the voluntary accreditation.
The hospital underwent an on-site review that included observation of staff, examination of patient records and an analysis of the physical plant.
"It's definitely a distinction for Lewis-Gale," said marketing director Terri Rush.
The voluntary accreditation is for three years, at which time another review will be conducted.
In addition to Lewis-Gale, Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News also has earned accreditation from the college.
