OBIT RICE, JOSEPH JERRY
RICE, Joseph Jerry 77, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, January 15, 1993, in
a local hospital. He was a veteran of World War II, and was retired from N&W
Railroad after 36 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Emma Barbour
Rice, and one daughter and son-in-law, Norma R. and William Smith, all of
Roanoke; two devoted nephews, Charles Perry of Roanoke, Lonnie Rice of
Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Estelle L. Bell of Jamaica, N.Y.; two
grandchildren, Randi B. Smith of Roanoke, Marc K. Smith of Richmond; and a
host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be
held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel with Dr. J. Eugene Young
officiating. Burial will follow in Williams Memorial Park. The family will
receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Hamlar-Curtis,
