OBIT HANKINS, DOROTHY GUNDRY
HANKINS, Dorothy Gundry, 93, of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 16, 1993,
in a Roanoke hospital. She was born in Reading, Pa., and lived in Houston,
Texas, and Winston-Salem, N. C., before coming to Roanoke in 1962. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Hankins. She was for many years a
member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church and at the time of her death,
was a member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church. She is survived by her
children, Dr. Robert W. Hankins and his wife, Helen of San Marcos, Texas, and
Lois H. Welfare and her husband, John of Roanoke. She is also survived by
eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive
friends at Oakey's South Chapel on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A
graveside service will be conducted at Forsythe Memorial Park in
Winston-Salem, N. C. 3:30 p.m. Monday by Dr. Daniel E. Scott. The family
requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the "Landscape Fund
" of Virginia Heights Baptist Church, 2014 Memorial Ave., S. W., Roanoke, Va.
24015 or a charity of your choice.
