OBIT OVERSTREET, LELIA SAUNDERS

OVERSTREET, Lelia Saunders, 82, of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 16, 1993, in a local hospital. She was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church where she served for many years as treasurer of The United Methodist Women's Society. Mrs. Overstreet retired from the Roanoke City Schools cafeteria department with twenty-five years of service. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jo Thompson, and a sister, Nellie Layman. Surviving are her husband, Moorman Overstreet; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda O. and Dennis M. Akers, Troutville; her grandchildren, Lisa and David Stanfill Jr., Kevin and Kim Akers, Danny Thompson; three sisters, Virginia Wickham of Bedford, Mary Mitchell of Vinton, Martha Whitesell of Roanoke; and four brothers, Hillary Saunders, Riley Saunders, both of Bedford, James Saunders of Roanoke, Spottswood Saunders of Salem. Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews and many other close relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, January 18, 1993, at Belmont United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold M. Fuss officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. For anyone wishing to make contributions, the family suggests memorials may be made to Belmont United Methodist Church.
