APPARENT FLUE FIRE DAMAGES ROANOKE HOME
A Northeast Roanoke home was damaged Sunday by a fire that officials say may have started in a fireplace flue.Isaac and Anne York and their daughter, Diana Cox, had just finished dinner a little after 7 p.m. when they smelled smoke. Isaac York said he walked outside and saw flames shooting from his daughter's bedroom.
He ran back inside and told his family to get out of the house. Diana Cox said she ran to her bedroom for some shoes, opened the door and was hit in the face with black smoke.
The fire appeared to start in the flue of a family-room fireplace, said Capt. John Sweeney, of the Roanoke Fire Department. Most of the fire damage was to a front bedroom. The rest of the house had smoke and water damage, he said.
Anne York said the flue had caught fire earlier Sunday.
