EMORY & HENRY CONTINUES TO ROLL 92-67

Teddy Gibson scored 23 points and Derek Elmore added 17 on Sunday as Emory & Henry beat Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Lynchburg 92-67 in men's basketball.

Emory & Henry (12-1 overall, 7-0 ODAC) had a 49-33 halftime lead after making 18 of 29 (62 percent) of its shots from the field. Lynchburg (2-9, 0-5) never cut into that lead.

Anthony Cummings led Lynchburg with 42 points. Cummings was 16-of-25 from the field and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line.

\ Women

\ No. 8 Virginia 79, N.C. State 73: At Charlottesville, Heather Burge had 23 points and 15 rebounds, leading the Cavaliers past the stubborn Wolfpack in the ACC.

Dena Evans added 16 points for the Cavaliers, and Wendy Palmer had 12. Danyel Parker and Tammy Gibson led the Wolfpack with 21 points apiece.

Virginia (11-3, 3-1) led 42-36 at the half and pulled ahead by 16 points. But the Cavaliers couldn't maintain that pressure against the Wolfpack (6-6, 2-3).

Both Burge and her twin sister, Heidi, fouled out late in the second half.
