CAVS' GOODMAN THROWS 3 TDS IN ALL-STAR GAME

Bobby Goodman of the University of Virginia threw for three touchdowns as the National All-Stars beat the American squad 27-21 in the All American Classic football game Monday.

The National team, made up mostly of players from NCAA Division I-A schools, took a 7-0 lead 4 1/2 minutes into the game when Goodman threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Temple's Leslie Shepherd.

Goodman hit East Carolina's Clayton Driver from 12 yards out 18 seconds into the second quarter to increase the National lead to 14-0.

After Artis Ford recovered Rod Dickerson's fumble on the American 24, Jerome Lindsay hit Maurice Mabry of UC-Davis from 12 yards out two plays later to make the score 21-0.

The American team, made up of Division I-AA and NAIA players, began a comeback late in the first half when Millersville's Chris Fagan threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Hampton's Terrance Warren with 5:46 left.

Henderson Mosely of Central State threw a 6-yard scoring pass to Ken Sims of James Madison with 13:42 left in the third quarter to pull the American team to 21-14. Then Goodman hooked up with Al Whiting of East Carolina 3 1/2 minutes later to give the Nationals a 27-14 lead.

Mosely's 16-yard scoring pass to Rhode Island's Darren Rizzi with 5:08 left accounted for the final American score.
