OBIT TYREE, WALTER W.
TYREE, Walter W., 67, of Roanoke, died Sunday, January 17, 1993, in a local
hospital. He was retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs, with 38
years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Recently he was a
self employed certified Virginia State licensed real estate appraiser. Walter
was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was an
active member and deacon at Ninth Street Church of the Brethren. He touched
the lives of many people by giving of his time lovingly and unselfishly.
Surviving are his wife, Violet Thornhill Tyree of Roanoke; son and
daughter-in-law, Dale W. and Karen W. Tyree of Virginia Beach; granddaughter,
Hannah W. Tyree of Virginia Beach; father, George W. Tyree of Roanoke; brother
and sister-in-law, Bill S. and Sheila Tyree of Roanoke; sisters and
brother-in-law, Betty T. and Johnny Tayloe of Newport News and Margaret T.
Caldwell of Roanoke; also a number of nephews, nieces, great-nephews,
great-nieces, aunts and cousins. Funeral services will be held at Ninth Street
Church of the Brethren 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Gene Hagenberger and the
Rev. Paul White officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial
Gardens. Donations may be made to the Ninth Street Church of the Brethren and
the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m.
and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oakey's South Chapel.
