ALLEGHANY THUMPS ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY
Michael Hunter poured in 31 points and Alleghany dogged Rockbridge County on the boards as the Mountaineers earned an 86-76 Blue Ridge District boys' basketball victory on Tuesday night.Alleghany (10-1 overall, 1-1 Blue Ridge) had 27 offensive rebounds, 12 in the second quarter, as it wiped out an eight-point deficit. The Mountaineers won the rebounding battle 46-33.
Todd Wheatley added 21 points and Jermaine Winston scored 20 for Alleghany, which pulled away after a 37-37 halftime tie.
Marty Early led the Wildcats (7-5, 1-1) with 18 points. Mike Chambers had 13, Kenny Lewis 12 and Kevin Alestock 10.

BASSETT - Chris Hagwood's 3-pointer snapped a 30-30 tie with 3 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter and ignited a 31-17 run that sparked the Bengals to the Piedmont District triumph.
Artemus Wade led Bassett (3-9, 3-8) with 15 points. Darryle Hand added 14 and Hagwood 10.
Jerome Hagwood led Patrick County (3-9, 1-9) with 15.

\ Westchester 58, Carlisle 34: At Martinsville, Chiefs center Brian Hardy scored a career-high 17 points, but the Chiefs couldn't hold off Westchester in a non-conference boys game.
Todd Godwin scored 14 points and George Webster 12 for Westchester (9-7), which led 20-16 at halftime and outscored Carlisle 22-12 in the third quarter.
Hardy was averaging 5.5 points per game for the Chiefs (1-12). \
