OBIT AKERS, A.
AKERS, Auborn L., ("Al"), 90, of Roanoke, died Monday, January 18, 1993. He
was a member of the Central Church of the Brethren and retired from the N & W
Railway. Mr. Akers was State Director of the A.A.R.P. for 4 1/2 years.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Hazel W. Akers; two daughters and
son-in-law, Marjorie and William McGhee, Mullins, W.Va., Betty Jean Ziegler,
Richmond; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl A.
Law, Roanoke, Grace A. Waddell, Richmond; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 1:30 p.m. Thursday,
with the Rev. David A. Yingling officiating. Interment will be in Fair View
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central Church of
the Brethren, 416 West Church Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24016. The family will
receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
