SHOULD `RIFLE' GROUP CHANGE ITS NAME?
ONCE in the depths of the Great Depression, NRA stood for the National Recovery Administration. Now NRA stands for the National Rifle Association, which is feared by all politicians when there is any attempt being made by government to establish some control over handguns. It is very difficult to understand why this is so when no thought is being given to controlling rifles. NRA does not stand for National Handgun Association.NRA claims guns do not kill, only people do. It also can be said that autos do not kill, only people using them do. In the early days of the automobile, there were no drivers' licenses or auto tags. Eventually, society realized that it was necessary to register autos and make sure drivers were competent.
