THE PEOPLE COLUMN

Insisting his daughter's mental health is paramount, Woody Allen has agreed to halt his effort to see 7-year-old Dylan in exchange for having ex-lover Mia Farrow appoint a psychotherapist to treat the child, lawyers for both said Tuesday.

The agreement eliminates the need for next week's scheduled visitation hearing, thereby scrubbing a courtroom showdown between Allen and Farrow over the filmmaker's request to see their three children - Dylan, natural son Satchel, 5, and adopted son Moses, 14.

Allen will be allowed to resume visitation with Satchel.

The filmmaker and actor has accused Farrow of "drumming lies" into Dylan's head in accusing Allen of sexually abusing the child. Dylan has been interviewed almost weekly by a child-study team at Yale/New Haven Medical Center in Connecticut. The team is helping state police investigate the girl's charges.

The Elvis Presley stamp has been turning up on letters mailed to non-existent addresses, Postal Service officials said Tuesday. And by return mail, the inventive fans thus get a cheap and nifty souvenir marked "Return to Sender," the title of one of the King's hits.
