EXPELLED BOY SUES TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL
An 11-year-old boy who was expelled for violating school weapons policy by having a key chain with a gun-shaped charm has filed suit seeking to return to school. The lawsuit asks that George Smith be allowed to return immediately to Nansemond-Parkway Elementary School.
The board expelled the fifth-grader Jan. 14. But George has been barred from class since Dec. 7, when a teacher saw the 1\ -inch toy pistol in his pocket.
The lawsuit contends that the board's rules are "vague and confusing" and allow school officials to act without "ordinary intelligence."
