ROANOKE MAN KILLED IN ROCKBRIDGE WRECK

A Roanoke man was killed in an accident Thursday morning on Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County.

A state police dispatcher said Patrick Charles Ferguson, 39, died after his four-wheel-drive vehicle went over a guardrail, rolled down a ravine and landed top down in a culvert, a dispatcher said. The accident occurred around 5:40 a.m.

Ferguson was northbound near Natural Bridge when he tried to pass a tractor-trailer, the dispatcher said. The vehicle went out of control, spun and smashed into the guardrail twice before going over it.

Ferguson, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, the dispatcher said.
