TREASURER: TAX COLLECTOR TARGET OF VANDALISM
City Treasurer Charles H. Whitehurst says he thinks vandalism directed at one of his tax collector's automobiles is related to the man's job.Whitehurst has asked city officials twice since October to try to find out who is responsible for such acts as pouring sugar into the gas tank of Morton R. Williford's car, jamming paper clips into the locks of his car doors and deflating his tires.
A half-dozen times, vandals left the doors open on Williford's car so the interior light would run down the battery.
"I'm fairly sure it has been job-related," Whitehurst said. - Associated Press
