MARCH 18 EXECUTION SET FOR KILLER OF 5
A judge Thursday set March 18 as the execution date for Syvasky Poyner, convicted of killing five women in southeastern Virginia in 1984.Circuit Judge John Folkes took the action two days after a federal appeals court threw out a suit filed on behalf of Poyner that claims Virginia's electric chair amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.
Defense attorney Alex Slaughter said he will continue to pursue the suit.
