2 AMES STORES WILL BECOME VALUE CITY

Value City Department Stores Inc. will convert two Ames Department Stores in Virginia Beach and Newport News this summer to Value City operations.

The Columbus, Ohio-based chain of 75 off-price department stores paid $700,000 for multiyear leases on the stores during Ames' bankruptcy proceedings.

Ames said in October it planned to close its six stores in Hampton Roads. All are holding liquidation sales scheduled to last into March.
