FORMER SECRETARY OF STATE EAGLEBURGER GETS JOB AT UVA

Former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger has been appointed to a faculty position at the University of Virginia, school officials said Friday.

Eagleburger, who left office Wednesday with the Bush administration, will work part-time with the school's White Burkett Miller Center of Public Affairs. The center studies the United States presidency and governance issues.

Eagleburger, 62, also will lecture at the university and help the center with an oral history project on the Bush administration. He will work with the center on two new national commissions that will make recommendations on the size of congressional and White House staffs.

The diplomat served as deputy secretary of state for three years and became acting secretary last fall when James Baker was named White House chief-of-staff and director of the Bush re-election campaign. - Associated Press
