DAVIDSON FAMILY WINS 1993 KENDIG AWARD
Mr. and Mrs. Sigmund E. Davidson, and their sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Jane Davidson, and Steve and Sherry Davidson, are the 1993 Perry F. Kendig Award winners.The Kendig Award is named for the late president of Roanoke College and longtime arts supporter. It has been presented annually since 1985.
The Arts Council of the Blue Ridge present the award in recognition of the Davidsons' support of area cultural and civic organizations.
Since 1983, the family's chain of men's clothing stores has been the sole sponsor of Affair in the Square, a fund-raising event for Center in the Square.
Sigmund and Harriet Davidson support several arts groups, including Showtimers, Mill Mountain Theatre, the Acting Co. and the Chamber Music Society.
He is also associated with the Literacy Foundation and Julian Stanley Wise Rescue Squad exhibit at the Roanoke Valley History Museum.
Larry Davidson, a former president of Downtown Roanoke Inc., works with TRUST and the B'nai B'rith Athletic Achievement Awards program. Steve Davidson is president of the Roanoke Valley SPCA.
A ceremony honoring the Davidsons is tentatively scheduled for May 13.
