OBIT DENTON, JAMES HOWARD

DENTON, James Howard, 41, of Roanoke, formerly of Lynchburg, died Thursday, January 21, 1993, at the home of his sister, Judy A. Staton, in Culpeper, Va. Born September 28, 1951, in Lynchburg, he was a son of Howard B. and Elizabeth H. Denton of Thomasville, N. C. He was a former choir director and youth minister of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Lynchburg and numerous other churches of the Lynchburg area. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three children, Rebecca Shannon Denton, Christopher S. Denton and Jonathan Howard Denton of Roanoke; three sisters, Judy A. Staton and family of Culpeper, Costella C. Paris and family of Trinity, N. C., and Terry H. Jones of Amherst; a number of nieces and nephews. Among his many friends surviving are his former wife and mother of his three children, Sandra W. Denton of Roanoke; three devoted friends, Joel Fulp of Daleville, Carlton Doss of Roanoke and Teacie McCauley of Lynchburg. A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Flat Creek Baptist Church by Dr. Henry L. Copeland Sr. and the Rev. David E. Brooks. Burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the home of a cousin, Edith Mallow, 100 Baker Rd., Lynchburg.
