BYRD UPENDS ROCKBRIDGE 76-70
David Robertson scored 24 points and Donald Childress added 19 as William Byrd defeated Rockbridge County 76-70 in a Blue Ridge District boys' basketball game Friday night.After leading 31-30 at halftime, William Byrd (8-3 overall, 2-1 Blue Ridge) gained some breathing room in the third quarter, outscoring Rockbridge (7-6, 1-2) by seven points.
Marty Early had 22 points and Kenny Lewis 18 for the Wildcats.
GW-Danville 70\ Patrick Henry 69
Chris Murphy scored 24 points and Rickie Cobbs added 20 as the Eagles slipped handed the Patriots their 12th loss in 13 games.
PH was down by three points late in the fourth quarter and scored to pull to one. GW-Danville missed the front end of a one-and-one and Patrick Henry rebounded, calling time out with three seconds left. The Patriots got the ball to halfcourt and called another timeout. With two seconds left, Chris Boyd shot a 3-pointer but it went off the rim.
Shannon Taylor led Patrick Henry with 17 points. The Patriots led 59-49 going into the fourth quarter before faltering.
\ Roanoke Valley Christian 73\ Roanoke Catholic 56
Roanoke Valley Christian raced to a 15-point halftime lead and coasted behind Sam Donnelly, who had 18 of his game-high 19 points in the first three quarters.
Aaron Hassell added 12 points and eight rebounds for Roanoke Valley Christian (3-6, 2-4). Josh McDermott had 11 points and nine assists.

BUCHANAN - Nathan Baker scored 15 points and Kris Carter added 13 as the Fighting Blues rolled over the Knights for a Pioneer District victory.
Parry McCluer (7-4, 3-3) had five players in double figures while holding all James River (3-10, 2-3) scorers to single figures. Jason Baker and Craig Floyd scored 12 points apiece and Sham Wheeler had 11 for the Fighting Blues. \ Craig County 58\ Highland 52
MONTEREY - Bobby Huffman scored 21 points to lead the Rockets to the Pioneer District victory over the Rams.
Tom Fisher added 13 for Craig County (7-6, 2-2). Highland (2-8, 0-5) got 16 points from Chris Schill.
Girls\ Roanoke Catholic 45\ Roanoke Valley Christian 37
Abby Dickson's rebound basket with two seconds left in regulation forced overtime and the Celtics went on to beat the Eagles in the Blue Ridge Conference game.
Roanoke Catholic (12-2, 7-1) never trailed in overtime, outscoring Roanoke Valley Christian (6-8, 5-2) 10-2.
Jackie Hinman led the winners with 19 points, and Dickson added 11. Brandi Surkamer led RVC (6-8, 5-2) with 14 points.

DANVILLE - Katrina King scored 14 points as the Eagles flew past the Patriots for a non-district win.
GW-Danville (12-2) jumped to a 21-5 lead in the first quarter and led 40-9 at halftime.
Elisha Jones led Patrick Henry (1-13) with 15 points.
