FRANKLIN MAY BE BREWING TO RECOVER TITLE
IT WAS with great interest and concern that I read your Jan. 12 editorial ("Shine on, Pittsylvania County") regarding the disappointing news that Virginia's "all-time biggest moonshine still" recently was discovered there. As a proud resident of Franklin County, I am somewhat dismayed at this development. And yet, at the same time, I want to extend my congratulations to our neighboring county. Temporarily.
Your editorial states that "Franklin County has presumably lost some of its luster as the touted moonshine capital of Virginia." This might be going a bit far.
As you also say, "Competition, too, is part of the American way." It would not surprise me if Franklin County regained this prestigious title. For all we know, our most competitive spirit(s) may still be submerged deep in the forests of Franklin County.
As we say down here, the best is yet to come. WHITEY TAYLOR CALLAWAY
