LET'S HAVE A CEASE-FIRE IN GUN WAR

I AM SICK at heart to see the war of words between advocates of gun control and the National Rifle Association.

A truce should be signed between these two groups and all energies and minds directed toward slowing or stopping the slaughter of Americans - 24,000 in 1991; more Americans than died in 1968 in Vietnam.

Gun-control advocates are not trying to do away with hunting or legitimate use of guns but want Virginia to limit the number of guns any person can buy and/or distribute.

How sad that our beloved Virginia is replacing its title, Mother of Presidents, to the largest distributor of guns on the East Coast or possibly in the country. New York, Maryland or the District of Columbia cannot test their laws if guns continue to flow from Virginia into their areas.

Let us work and pray for an answer to this problem. VIRGINIA BONDURANT ROANOKE
