NAMES & CHANGES

Tultex reorganizes marketing

Tultex Corp. in Martinsville has reorganized its marketing and customer service areas and named WALTER J. CARUBA, who previously worked as vice president of distribution, as vice president of marketing. He is responsible for marketing and sales for the Tultex and Brittania Sport brands to retailers the Tultex brand in wholesale customers, as well as the company's Discus Athletic, International and Dominion Stores.

Also, JOHN SMITH, formerly Tultex vice president of marketing and sales, has assumed the position of vice president of customer service. He will oversee customer service, distribution, screenprint, premium marketing, information services, master scheduling and materials planning.

\ JEFF JUDKINS, an account executive since 1991, has been named Tultex director of retail sales. He succeeds JOHN S. HAIRFIELD, who retired after 23 years with the firm.

\ STUART M. NICHOLS, previously product manager, has been appointed manager of wholesale marketing for Tultex. His duties include planning and executing marketing programs for the Tultex brand to distributors, screenprinters and contract accounts.

\ MICHAEL A. WHITE, formerly manager of wholesale marketing, has been named sales manager for wholesale. He will manage the company's sale force, involving direct sales efforts to the wholesale channels, including distributors, screenprinters, contract printers and private label.

ARCHITECTURE

\ ALAN E. ADLER of Lynchburg has opened a new firm, The Healthcare Collaborative. The new firm is a spinoff of The Greenwood Partnership, an engineering and architectural firm with offices in Lynchburg. It will focus on the design and construction of facilities for hospitals, physicians and other health-care clients. Adler will be responsible for the Healthcare Collaborative's marketing, project management and coordination of the various design disciplines. RAY HOGAN, retired president of Lynchburg General Hospital, will work as a consultant to the firm.

BANKING

\ LARRY W. WILLIAMS has been promoted to vice president at Dominion Bankshares. He is a regional security manager responsible for the bank's Blue Ridge area and Southwest Virginia.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

\ BELINDA H. DENSON has been named business office manager for Topping Tax Service. A licensed certified public accountant, she also has an enrolled agent certification, enabling her to represent clients before the Internal Revenue Service. She formerly worked with the Internal Revenue Service in Roanoke.

LAW

\ GARY M. BOWMAN, formerly of Martin, Hopkins, Lemon & Edwards, PC, has announced the opening of his office at 305 W. Campbell Ave. in Roanoke. His practice will specialize in litigation, environmental, energy and transportation regulation, corporate finance and international law. A graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and the University of Virginia law school, he formerly was law clerk to Judge Norman K. Moon of the Court of Appeals of Virginia and senior editor The Virginia Journal of International Law.

MANUFACTURING

Roanoke Electric Steel Corp.'s stockholders have elected FRANK A. BOXLEY, president of Southwest Construction Co., a director to succeed WILLIAM M. MEADOR, retired company president and chairman. Smith and nine other directors were re-elected.

TRANSPORTATION

\ RASHE W. STEPHENS JR. has been appointed assistant vice president-public affairs at Norfolk Southern Corp. Based in Washington, the department has responsibility for legislative and public policy issues as they relate to the corporation's business. Stephens joined a Norfolk Southern predecessor, Southern Railway, in 1969 as a customer account auditor. In 1970, he became a personnel officer in the company's Personnel department, and then worked through positions of increasing responsibility to become director of Equal Employment Opportunity and, in 1987, director of EEO and Manpower Planning for Norfolk Southern.

Also, two assistant vice presidents have been appointed in Norfolk Southern's transportation logistics division in Fort Wayne, Ind. J. EUGENE\ CARTER has become assistant vice president of logistics, moving from assistant vice president of material management. BRUCE L. HADDAN, formerly director of accounting systems and administration, has been named assistant vice president of systems.
