WYTHEVILLE PLANNING TO REPLACE WATER METERS, CHANGE BILLING
The town of Wytheville plans to replace its mechanical water meters with electronic ones and change its billing system from quarterly to monthly.Monthly billing from the more accurate electronic devices could come as early as July. The data can be fed directly from the meters into the town's computer.
Funds for the new meters are in the town's current budget. Bids for providing the new equipment were reviewed this month.
Town Council's Budget and Finance Committee recommended changing the billing system from quarterly to monthly.
A number of citizens, especially those on fixed incomes, have told town representatives they would prefer a monthly billing, according to committee members Thomas A. Bralley Jr. and Jackie K. King. Council has not yet received details on how the change would be made or acted on the recommendation.
