VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR PAGEANT
Volunteers of all ages are being sought for the Ms. Virginia Senior Citizen Pageant.Planning committee chairman Dotty Talbott of Dublin said that help is needed in a number of areas, including finding financial sponsors and prize donors, compiling information and making up a promotional brochure and printed program, securing contest judges, taking photographs and videotapes, arranging for flowers and prop plants for the stage, greeting contestants and guests and transporting (preferably by bus) the anticipated 20-30 contestants between their hotel and various area restaurants for meals.
Talbott, who was Ms. National Senior Citizen of 1991-92, said this will be the state's first pageant for women age 55 and over.
She said that the pageant, set for Aug. 19-21 at the Airport Sheraton Inn, is not a beauty pageant. Contestants will be judged on poise, fashion and talent and have an opportunity to meet new friends, have a good time and get a taste of show business.
Contestant registration is expected to begin in March. The winner of the Ms. Virginia title will enter the Ms. National Senior Citizen Pageant to be held in Joliet, Ill., in October.
