WOMEN DESERVE MORE COVERAGE

I am writing this letter to express my concern about the lack of coverage that your paper and the local TV stations give women's basketball teams in our area.

The paper can do a story every day on the Roanoke hockey team but can hardly have space for the women's basketball team scores and only a small write-up, if any at all. Also, never a photo. It is the men that always get front-page coverage and the extra large write-ups. That's bad and sad.

The women's teams deserve more coverage. Most of the time, the local TV stations don't even give out the score without our local teams are playing a top 10 team. The local station did a high school game or two this year and that was great, but how about a Lady Hokies home games from the Cassell? Sounds great to me.

And how about a Coach Carol [Alfano] show that would give the women's team some media coverage? They deserve it because they are the best.
