MORE COVERAGE FOR RICHLANDS
I was very disappointed to see the lack of coverage that you gave to Richlands High School's, the Blue Tornadoes, climb to the 1992 Group AA state football championship. This team is 14-0 and has made history by being the only Richlands High School team ever to win the state championship in football. They defeated a team in your area, Salem High School, which was supposed to have one of the best football teams in the state. Surprisingly, there was minimal information in your paper about that game. Richlands High School defeated Orange County High School 19-10 to win the state championship. This game summary was tucked in the "back pages" of your sports section.
I would not want to take anything from Pulaski County or Jefferson Forest for their outstanding efforts in winning titles in their respective regions and groups, but I do think that this group of young men from Richlands deserves "better press" than what they have received. I realize that the tendency is to often omit coverage on events from the far western portion of the state of Virginia. I do think that this "magical" season that Richlands has had deserves better recognition.
