FRIENDS PUSH FOR STAMP HONORING BRYANT

Tuesday is the 10th anniversary of the death of Paul "Bear" Bryant, and his longtime friends are campaigning for a postage stamp honoring the late Alabama Crimson Tide coach.

The U.S. Postal Service requires that anyone pictured on a stamp be dead a decade.

Robin Minard, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Service, said postal officials already have received letters requesting Bryant be honored.

The decision on who is honored on stamps is made by the 13-member Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee, which makes its announcements once a year. Only the president and postmaster general can override its decisions, but they rarely do.
