TECH ATHLETES PLACE IN INDOOR TRACK MEET
The Virginia Tech men's and women's indoor track squads had a large number of competitors place in the final day of events at the Comfort Inn/University Bookstore Invitational on Saturday..The men's team placed second in the distance medley, third in the 4x800-meter relay and second in the 4x400-relay.
The Hokies received individual help from Geof Tonini, who placed third in the men's 500-meter run in a time of 1:05.5; Travis Walter, sixth in the fast section of the 3,000-meters in 8:41.1; and Brent Matthews and Joe Kirkpatric, who finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 800-meters.
The women's team also had a strong performance. Erin Graham earned fourth place overall and set a school record in the 500-meters, running the distance in 1 minute and 17.1 seconds and breaking the record of 1:17.8, which she set Jan. 16.
Meredith McMahon took second place in the 3,000-meter run in 10:37.7. Michelle Palmertree finished fourth in the women's mile with a time of 5:15.4, followed by teammate Melissa Ward in fifth place at 5:21.6. - Staff report
