FORMER HOLLINS OFFICIAL DIES
Nena Thames Whittemore, former development director at Hollins College, died Saturday at her home in St. Augustine, Fla.While in Roanoke, Whittemore, 53, was active in the United Way, the National Conference of Christians and Jews and the chamber of commerce's "Leadership Roanoke" program. She left Hollins in 1986.
She had been an English professor at Hunter College and other schools and then an administrator at Carleton College in Minnesota, Bryant College in Rhode Island and most recently Flagler College in St. Augustine.
