BellSouth Corp., Atlanta-based parent of BellSouth Communication Systems of Roanoke, on Monday reported 1992 net income of $1.62 billion, or $3.30 a share, up 9.9 percent from $1.47 billion, or $3.04 a share in 1991. Revenues improved 5.2 percent to $15.20 billion, a record, from $14.45 billion. Operating expenses increased 3.5 percent.Revenues in last year's fourth quarter were $3.91 billion, compared with $3.69 billion in the 1991 quarter. Fourth-quarter net income was $353.4 million, compared with $386.9 million.
Chesapeake Corp.
Chesapeake Corp., a Richmond-based forest products company with operations in Roanoke, on Monday reported fourth-quarter net income of $1.3 million, or 5 cents a share, down from $5.7 million, or 28 cents a share, in the 1991 quarter. Sales were $212.8 million, up 4 percent from $203.8 million a year ago.
Sales for 1992 were up 6 percent to a record $888.4 million and net income was $14.4 million, or 63 cents share, down 6 percent from $15.4 million, or 75 cents per share.
