RAMPAGE, CIVIC CENTER COMPROMISE URGED

Councilman Delvis "Mac" McCadden said Monday that a spirit of compromise will be required for the Roanoke Valley Rampage hockey team to move its games to the Roanoke Civic Center.

Civic center officials are reviewing a counteroffer from Larry Revo, the team's owner, to move the games to the center for the 1993-94 season.

McCadden would not discuss the details of Revo's proposal, but said he hoped the Rampage owner was willing to compromise.

"I hope there is room for negotiation. If this is a starting point for discussion, then maybe something can be worked out," McCadden said.

The Civic Center Commission held a closed session Monday to discuss the hockey talks. More meetings are scheduled this week to negotiate the terms of a possible lease. The civic center earlier submitted an offer to Revo, who has said the hockey team would not return to the Vinton LancerLot next season because of low attendance and other factors.

He is considering several cities to relocate the hockey franchise.

McCadden has taken the lead in trying to get the civic center to outbid other cities to keep the team in the Roanoke Valley.

McCadden, City Council's liaison to the Civic Center Commission, said he was confident hockey could make money and benefit the valley if the community got behind it.

Several hockey games have been played in the civic center in recent years, but the last time the center was home for a team was in 1976-77 in the Southern Hockey League.
