EX-POLICEMAN CONVICTED OF ATTEMPTED BURGLARY
A former police officer faces 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine after being convicted Monday for the attempted burglary of a pawn shop in December 1991.In exchange for the guilty plea from Kyle L. Baxter, authorities agreed not to prosecute another burglary charge. Baxter, 30, is to be sentenced April 2.
It was the second felony conviction against Baxter stemming from his arrest last May for operating a burglary ring. A fellow Newport News police officer Chad Davisson, 33, is awaiting trial on similar accusations.
Baxter was convicted by a jury earlier this month of receiving thousands of dollars in stolen automotive tools from Davisson. The jury recommended Baxter spend three months in jail and pay a $2,500 fine.
