OBIT BERNARD, WALTER R., ("BUCK")
BERNARD, Walter R., ("Buck"), 79, of Route 1, Callaway died Sunday evening,
January 24, 1993 at his residence. He was born in Franklin County November 8,
1913, the son of the late Robert E. and Martha Jones Bernard. He was retired
from the Virginia Department of Transportation and was a member of Pigg River
Primitive Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Reba Furrow Bernard, of the
home; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and William Bowles, Callaway; one son
and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Pat Bernard, Callaway; two sisters, Katie
Guilliams, Paige Bowles, both of Callaway. Also surviving are two
granddaughters, Rhonda Bernard, Stacey Bowles; two grandsons and one
granddaughter-in-law, Brad Bernard, Gregory and Missy Bowles. Funeral services
will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church
by Elders W. Lane Carter, W. T. Conner, and Willard Cox with interment to
follow in the church cemetery. Visitation may begin after 4 p.m. Tuesday at
Lynch Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. The
family suggests that consideration of memorials be given to Callaway Fire or
Rescue Squad.
