STOP GROUSING; GIVE CLINTON A CHANCE

EVERYONE can't be a winner. The election is over and the American people have elected Bill J. Clinton, a Democrat, as their new president.

When Ronald Reagan and George Bush were elected president, we didn't hear comments about what a lousy president they would make and what was going to happen to the world. We gave both a chance to show us what their ideas were and what they wanted to do to improve our country and our living conditions.

I am so sick of hearing some of the losers say, "Hold on to your pocketbooks" and "Watch out, the economy will go to hell now that the Democrats are in the White House." If the American people had "held on to their pocketbooks" 12 years ago, we wouldn't have a $4.3 trillion national debt today. If they will recall, when the Republicans took over the White House, the debt was $1.3 trillion.

Let's give President Clinton a chance to clean up this mess. At least he wants to try to do something for us. GEORGE STULTZ ROANOKE
