SUPREME COURT BLOCKS EXECUTION OF MEXICAN

A Mexican national convicted of killing a Dallas policeman won a reprieve from a U.S. Supreme Court justice Tuesday, less than seven hours before he was to be executed. Texas officials had previously rejected Mexican officials' pleas to spare the man.

Ramon Montoya had faced lethal injection at midnight in Huntsville. But Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia issued a reprieve that he said would remain in effect until the full court decides whether to hear Montoya's appeal.
