GALAX GETS BY FORT CHISWELL

Jeff Spells scored 25 points and Wilbert Campbell added 18 as Galax squeaked by Fort Chiswell 63-61 for a Mountain Empire district boys' basketball victory Tuesday.

The teams were tied at 26 at halftime, and Fort Chiswell led by two points at the end of the third quarter. The Maroon Tide (9-2 overall, 8-1 Mountain Empire), ranked eighth in the state in Group A, made three key free throws in the fourth quarter to take the lead and hold on for the win.

Steve Widener scored 22 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Pioneers (8-4, 6-4). \

FLOYD - Jamie Robinson stole the ball with 19 seconds remaining and broke away for a layup, his only points of the game, and lifted the Blue Devils to victory over the Buffaloes in a Mountain Empire District game.

Grayson County (9-3, 8-1) was led by Bryan Boyer with 19 points and Mitch Hawks with 12.

Jason Light scored 24 points and Mike Hylton added 11 for Floyd County (8-3, 8-3), who trailed 28-26 at halftime. \

NARROWS - David Lambert scored 23 points as the Rockets flew past the Green Wave for a Mountain Empire District win.

Brad Harden paced Bland (8-5, 6-5) with 17 points. Jesse Selfe scored 13 points and Chris Tickle added 11.

Chad Fleeman scored 22 points to lead Narrows (5-7, 4-6). \

MONETA - Mike Moon, a 6-foot center, dominated with 24 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, and Eric Flood consistently burned the Rustburg press in the Seminole District victory.

Staunton River (6-7, 6-7) kept the Red Devils (0-13, 0-13) winless. \

NARUNA - The Minutemen coasted to an easy road victory in the Seminole District behind 3-point shooting.

Liberty (6-7, 6-7) had 10 goals from behind the arc, and Campbell (1-13, 1-13) had one. Bruce Jacobs scored 18 points to lead the Bedford team, while Cory Anderson added 14, including three 3-pointers. \

RADFORD - Chris Hairston scored 29 points and Garrett Jones added 17 as the Bobcats ran past the G-Men for a non-district win.

Radford (4-9) came out strong in the first half to take a 37-28 lead and never looked back. The Bobcats shot 59 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free-throw line.

Jay Gray scored 16 points and Fred Adams had 14 to lead Graham (6-8). \

Gateway Christian 77

Joy Ranch 58

HILLSVILLE - Brad Ewing scored 23 points and David Arthur added 21 as the Crusaders rolled over Joy Ranch for a non-district victory.

Gateway Christian (8-1) took a 25-5 lead in the first quarter and the Crusaders led 42-24 at halftime.

Barry Hutchins scored 26 points to lead Joy Ranch (7-7). \
