ROAD ROUGH ON RAMPAGE
After stopping the longest losing run in East Coast Hockey League history, the Roanoke Valley Rampage still has one more negative streak with which to deal. The Rampage, which beat Knoxville 5-4 on Saturday in Vinton to end an ECHL-record 16-game slide, wasn't as successful at terminating its road losing streak Tuesday night, losing 6-5 to the Raleigh IceCaps at Dorton Arena.
The loss was Roanoke Valley's ECHL-record 20th straight on the road. The Rampage, 1-20-1 on the road, hasn't won away from Vinton in nearly three months.
As opposed to many of its road games this season, the Rampage (11-32-1) was in this one. Roanoke Valley closed to 6-5 on Joe Dragon's goal with 4:55 left, but despite outshooting the IceCaps 20-10 in the third period, couldn't draw even.
Dean Dorchak had two goals and an assist to pace Roanoke Valley. Scott Burfoot, Ken Blum and Dragon had the other Rampage goals.
Rick Barkovich and Mike Lappin each had two goals for Raleigh (26-15-3).
