NationsBank will contribute $238,000 toward scholarships and athletic events at Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association schools, bank and league officials announced.

Under the two-year agreement, NationsBank will sponsor the CIAA men's and women's basketball tournaments. This year's tournaments will be held in Richmond from Feb. 21-27. The CIAA is made up of 14 historically black universities in Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland.

Roger Penske made it official: His drivers for 1993 will be former IndyCar and Formula One champion Emerson Fittipaldi and budding Canadian star Paul Tracy. Tracy, who has been a test driver and part-time racer for Penske the past two years, replaces retired Rick Mears as Fittipaldi's full-time partner for the 16-race IndyCar series.

Hawaiian-born sumo wrestler Chad Rowan, 23, was officially awarded the ancient sport's highest rank, making him Japan's first foreign grand champion. His ring name is "Akebono [Sunrise]."
