HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENT CHARGED IN RAPE AT TECH

A high-school student from Chesterfield has been charged with raping a woman on the Virginia Tech campus last weekend.

Jason Norman Vineyard, 18, was charged by Tech police after investigating a complaint by a 19-year-old woman from Dale City who was visiting friends in Blacksburg and at Tech.

Vineyard was released on a personal recognizance bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 24 in Montgomery County General District Court.

The woman had been visiting a student in a dormitory room at Pritchard Hall. The student who lived at Pritchard was not involved in the rape or aware of it, the release stated.

Campus police said that alcohol was a factor in the incident, as is often the case involving sexual assault and young people, the release stated.
