NORTH GETS COLD SHOULDER
Retired Lt. Col. Oliver North, the key figure in the Reagan administration's sale of arms to Iran in the mid-1980s, got a chilly reception Wednesday from Democrats when he was introduced in the House of Delegates.North, a Northern Virginia resident and businessman, was a guest of the Republican Caucus and was escorted to the Capitol by GOP lawmakers.
After Del. Stephen Martin, R-Richmond, sang North's praises, Republicans in the House stood to applaud him, as is customary withwell-known figures.
But Democrats remained seated and most did not applaud. In the Senate, Democrats slowly rose and joined the GOP applause after North was introduced there.
