TEEN HELD IN ATTACK, THREAT AT AIRPORT

A psychiatric evaluation was ordered Wednesday for a teen-ager who attacked a ticket agent and said he put a bomb on a USAir jet at Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

Two planes were searched and one flight was canceled as a result of the incident. No explosives were found and other flights at the airport were not affected, said state police spokesman Greg Shipley.

The teen-ager, who had a ticket for a connecting flight to Roanoke, Va., ran off a plane from Phoenix and went to a different gate where a plane bound for Charlotte, N.C., was boarding, said USAir spokeswoman Susan Young.

He attacked an agent and headed down an entrance ramp to the plane, where he scuffled with an off-duty pilot. The pilot overheard the teen-ager make a threat against the departing aircraft.

The second plane was evacuated and searched along with the empty Phoenix flight, Shipley said.

Following his arrest, the 17-year-old Arizona youth was taken to North Arundel Hospital in Glen Burnie to be evaluated, Shipley said.

The youth apparently was under the influence of a hallucinogenic drug, although drugs were not found on him, The (Baltimore) Evening Sun reported. Shipley would not comment on the drug report, but described the youth's behavior as "wild."

The teen-ager, who was not identified because of his age, was charged as a juvenile with falsely reporting a bomb, two counts of assault and battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
