OBIT MILLER, HELEN SANDS

MILLER, Helen Sands, 89, of the Givens Estates, Asheville, N.C., died Wednesday morning at Givens Estates. A native of Baltimore, Md., she had lived in Vinton and Roanoke for almost 50 years before moving to Asheville. In Roanoke, she was a member of the Northminister Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Edward Miller, owner and operator of the Miller Maytag Company in Vinton for over thirty years and a business and civic leader in Roanoke. Mrs. Miller is survived by three sons, Lewis B. Miller of Los Altos, Ca., Barry S. Miller of Rixeyville, Va., and Jerry A. Miller of Asheville; one brother, Charles T. Sands of Baltimore, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Private services will be held in Roanoke and burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, P.O. Box 19223, Asheville, N.C. 28815. Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Asheville and Oakey's Funeral Home is in charge in Roanoke.
