ELIZABETH BUNCE-NICHOLS, Christian education director at Christ Episcopal Church for the past five years, has announced her retirement effective July 4. Bunce-Nichols of Goodview and her husband, Sidney, came to Roanoke from Alabama after careers in United Methodist and Episcopal churches. They will remain active in the parish.\ NOON ORGAN CONCERTS are being presented each Wednesday in February from 12:05 to 12:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, McClanahan and South Jefferson streets. This is the 15th year for the free lunch-hour programs.
Next week's artists will be Robert Chapman and Deborah Kemper. Elaine Graybeal will perform on Feb. 10 and Thomas Baugh on Feb. 17. Both are organists.
The final program on Feb. 24 will feature organ duos by Chapman and Baugh.
\ SARAH WEBB HARWELL, a former Roanoker, recently became associate pastor of Oak Hills Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Butler, Pa.
Webb formerly served a Millville, Pa., church for four years. She presented the 1992 Snidow Lecture on Christian Life at Lynchburg College.
\ CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH has commissioned its pastor, the Rev. Mark Radecke, and two lay members, Jodi Rosendahl and Peggy-Ann Neumann, as leaders in Stephen Ministry.
The ministry is a national program that trains church members to minister to the sick, bereaved or those who need the spiritual support of Christian friends. The trio will in turn train volunteers from the congregation to expand the program.
\ THE REV. BRANAN G. THOMPSON JR. will mark his 25th anniversary as pastor of Colonial Avenue Baptist Church at a Valentine banquet Feb. 6. The native of Georgia and graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary has been active in Roanoke Valley organizations to promote ecumenical cooperation and contemporary Christian ethics.
\ VIRGINIA HEIGHTS BAPTIST CHURCH, Memorial Avenue at Grandin Road Southwest, is beginning a Bible study group for young women of the community. The class, taught by Lorene Preas, will meet the first Wednesday of the month beginning in February at 6:45 p.m.
"Women of the Bible" will be its theme.

\ RED HILL BAPTIST CHURCH, 6251 Franklin Road in the Clearbrook community is sponsoring a series of Fifth Sunday gospel sings.
The Southern Statesmen Quartet will perform Sunday at 11 a.m. A potluck lunch will be held after the service. Call 343-6963 for more information.
\ ROANOKE AREA MINISTRIES, an ecumenical crisis agency supported by many religious and civic groups, will benefit from a valleywide food drive conducted by youth groups in several Grace Brethren congregations.
Teens will visit homes Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. to collect non-perishables and commercially canned food.
\ HEBREW CLASSES for adults and teens of any faith will begin Feb. 8 at Beth Israel Synagogue, 920 Franklin Road S.W.
Rabbi Jerome S. Fox will teach the classes that are the Alef or beginner level and will include the phonetic reading of the Hebrew alphabet. A fee of $15 covers materials and instruction.
The class will meet on Monday nights from 7:30 to 8:30 except on Feb. 22 and the Passover weeks of April 5 and 12. The last session will be May 17. Call 343-0289 for more information.
\ JOHN RICHARDSON and CHRISTOPHER WRIGHT, two British churchmen representing the Diocese of Bradford, are visiting Western Virginia Episcopal parishes through Tuesday.
The Diocese of Bradford and the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia have an international partnership. The two representatives will attend the annual business meeting of the Western Virginia diocese Friday through Sunday in Blacksburg.
