DR. FRED G. ALOUF JR., has been named Father of the Virginia Academy of General Dentistry in recognition of his efforts in organizing the academy 27 years ago and his service over the years.The academy is dedicated to continuing education for dentists through its fellowship and mastership programs.
\ DR. MAX E. BERTHOLF and MARY JO STAFFORD of Physicians to Families in Daleville won second place nationally in their category for a research paper that they presented to the annual Scientific Assembly of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
The paper was titled "Reinfection with Vulvovaginal Candida - How Accurate is Self-Diagnosis?"
\ HOUSECALL HEALTH CARE, a provider of home care and hospice services formerly known as Lewis-Gale Home Health, recently opened new offices at 2039 W. Main St., Salem, and in Daleville.
\ AUBREY JOHNSON and RICHARD BONGRAZIO, Roanoke representatives for Pyramid Life Insurance Co., have won the President's Club Award for outstanding sales production and service.
Johnson and Bongrazio have been with the Roanoke office for approximately three years and rank near the top in Pyramid's national agency force.
\ DONNY JULIAN of Hildebrand Road Northwest was recognized as the International Bottled Water Association's route salesman of the year by the Shenandoah Valley Water Co. in Staunton.
\ CHAS. LUNSFORD SONS & ASSOCIATES has been selected broker of the year by the Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association Group, a major underwriter of workers' compensation insurance in the mid-Atlantic region.
The Lunsford agency was selected as PMA's top firm among the 50 companies in its largest premium division based on service and volume.
\ GEORGE W. WOOTEN of Wooten & Hart law firm was named boss of the year by the Roanoke Valley Legal Secretaries Association.
The group also named Nancy S. Akers, secretary at Stott & Anthony, member of the year.
\ DONNA P. GRAYSON, a credit analyst with Dominion Bankshares Corp. in Grayson Roanoke, won first place in the national paper writing competition sponsored by Robert Morris Associates, the National Association of Bank Loan and Credit Officers.
Grayson evaluated the impact from Medicare's radical reform of the physician reimbursement structure and analyzed its possible effect on the extension of credit.
\ HOWARD M. POAGE of Roanoke Poage Gas Co. has been named the 1992 gas person of the year by the Southeastern Gas Association.
Poage, director of commercial gas and propane sales, was recognized for his contributions to the gas industry during his 41-year career. He has held a variety of positions in the service and sales departments.
He is a member of the board of directors of the Virginia Propane Gas Association, the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association and the Board of Governors of the Roanoke Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
\ TERESA L. PERDUE of Roanoke has been certified as an independent skin care and image consultant for BeautiControl Cosmetics Inc.
\ BRENDA LUGAR, manager of the Hair Plus beauty salon at Tanglewood Mall, was recognized by LaMarick Beauty System for managing the cleanest salon within its territory during 1992.
\ GARY L. FRANCISCO, certified public accountant, recently received an unqualified opinion, the highest standard attainable in the Quality Review Program of the Virginia Society of CPAs.
\ ANITA S. BOLTON, a claims examiner for the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board's district office in Roanoke, has been honored with an Award of Excellence.
The award was given in recognition of her quality work and for her excellence in public service.
