NASCAR TEAM GOING PUBLIC WITH STOCK

Die-hard stock car racing fans may be able to own a piece of their own NASCAR racer under a public stock offering.

A group headed by longtime crew chief and car owner Travis Carter is seeking to be the first publicly owned company created specifically to compete on the NASCAR's Winston Cup series.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, American Motor Racing Inc. said it hopes to raise $11 million through the sale of about 1.5 million shares of common stock. The proceeds would be used to sponsor a racing team and market souvenirs. At NASCAR headquarters in Daytona Beach, Fla., spokesman Chip Williams said it would be the first publicly held company to participate in NASCAR.
